Programme Overview & Principles
This 10-week development programme is designed to support long-term athlete development for players aged 6–15, focusing on building strong technical foundations while progressively increasing game understanding, confidence, and performance.
The programme is delivered in four progressive phases, ensuring players are challenged appropriately based on age, maturity, and experience. Training content evolves from fundamental skill acquisition to game-based application, allowing players to transfer skills effectively into match situations.
Development Phases
Weeks 1–3: Foundations
Establish core movement patterns, technical skill execution, and safe contact habits.
Weeks 4–6: Skills Under Pressure
Develop the ability to execute skills at speed, under time and defensive pressure.
Weeks 7–9: Game Application
Apply skills within realistic game scenarios, with an emphasis on decision-making, positioning, and teamwork.
Week 10: Review, Challenge & Enjoyment
Reinforce learning through assessment, competitive challenges, and game-based activities that promote enjoyment and confidence.
